Illinois Fire Museum
The Illinois State Fire Museum will now be open from 1 to 4 pm on weekdays beginning Sept. 8th. The museum, which had previously been open only during the fair week or for special appointments, will be staffed with a full time State Fire Marshal employee during museum business hours.
Work on the museum which is located at Central Avenue at Main Street on the
fairgrounds, began in 1994. Initially, only one room was open for displays, but
over the years, the museum has grown to include a variety of displays that
feature both old and new firefighting gear. Items on display range from buckets
used on the old "bucket brigades" to the "jaws of life" that
are carried on rescue trucks today. There are also two antique fire trucks-1939
Diamond T. and a 1948 ford. Other items on display include antique and
contemporary uniforms, one of the country's largest fire service patch
collections.
The building that is now home to the museum was originally built in 1938 and was
used by the Illinois Fairgrounds Fire Department. Later, the Springfield Fire
Department took over the operation of the building and used the station as an
active firehouse up until the late 1980s when a new station was built at the
fairgrounds.
The Illinois State Fairgrounds is located in Springfield Illinois at the corner
of Sangamon Avenue and Peoria Road.

Novelty Fire Helmet
I manufacture a novelty Fire
Helmet. The helmet is made from the original molds that the Texaco Fire Chief
helmet was made from in the 1960's. The
helmet comes in either red or black with a standard shield or you can have a
custom shield made for a small additional charge. The helmet can be seen:

wondering if you could link us through your site via our banner link. I have
